Birdman and his older brother Slim were honored with keys to New Orleans for their ongoing “commitment to the community.”

Mayor LaToya Cantrell made the announcement on Tuesday (February 6).

“Congratulations to Birdman & Slim! Yesterday I presented Keys to the City of New Orleans to Bryan ‘Birdman’ Williams & Ronald ‘Slim’ Williams,” the Mayor wrote in a Tweet.

She added: “Thanks for your contributions to music & commitment to the community. Johnny and Gladys Williams [the brothers’ late parents] would be PROUD.”

In his speech, Birdman said: “Nothing never came easy for us coming from Uptown. I’m gonna continue. I’m not done with it. That’s why I never really cared about doing this, but I always felt like if you be honored that mean you finished what you been doing. I’m not finished yet.”

Last we heard from the Cash Money Records co-founder was last month, when it was reported that he was in the studio with Lil Wayne.

The long-awaited reunion photo was posted to Lil Wayne’s Instagram stories. Although the pair appeared to be in the studio, the ex-Hot Boy didn’t give too many details about what fans could expect from this reunion.

“Like father like son #richgang @cashmoneyofficial,” Weezy captioned the pics.

Baby and Wayne have had their disputes over the years, and one of them included the former being frustrated with Weezy for always trying to mimic JAY-Z.

In a sprawling interview with Rolling Stone, which dropped last summer, Lil Wayne reflected on the 15th anniversary of Tha Carter III and his career as a whole, and when asked what rappers are in his playlist he simply said, “No one.” His reasoning was he learned early on that having a favorite rapper means you will inevitably try to mimic them without realizing it.

“When it comes to rap, I don’t listen to no one,” Wayne said. “I just don’t have time to, because I’m trying to get better every day.

“I tell my artist[s] that, too. When you find a favorite artist, you’re going to start sounding like them.”

He went on: “It took Birdman and them to pull my ass aside and be like, ‘Bro, I’m tired of every song you doing sounding like damn JAY-Z. You’re not JAY-Z.’”
