J. Cole has been honored with a new mural in his hometown of Fayetteville, North Carolina.
The huge artwork, which sits on the side of a record store in downtown Fayetteville, was created by New York-based graffiti artist Andaluz The Artist.
It depicts a larger-than-life portrait of the rap star next to the phrase: “Welcome to Fayetteville,” with each letter adorned with images nodding to the city’s history, as well as Cole’s Dreamville label.
Andaluz unveiled the finished mural in a video posted to Instagram on Tuesday (April 2), just days before Cole’s Dreamville Festival is set to take place in nearby Raleigh.
“Tag J. Cole and let him know I just wrapped up this mural of him in his hometown of Fayetteville NC at @backaroundrecords address: 1 market square Fayetteville, NC,” he wrote.
“I had lots of fun working on this piece. The community was really loving and embracing.”
Fans flooded Andaluz’s comments section with praise for his mural, with one person writing: “I just went and visited and sir!!!! You did THAT! The artistry is absolutely beautiful! Thank you for giving that to my city! 2-6!”
Queens, New York rapper Grafh also approved of the artwork by commenting: “That’s craaaazy.”
This year’s Dreamville Festival is headlined by SZA, Nicki Minaj, 50 Cent and J. Cole himself. The star-studded lineup also boasts Jeezy, ScHoolboy Q, Sexxy Red, Lil Yachty and JID, among others.
Chris Brown was originally booked as a co-headliner but pulled out earlier this week due to “unforeseen circumstances,” leading to 50 being brought in as his replacement.
Fellow R&B star Muni Long also dropped out for an unexplained reason, with Hunxho added to the lineup instead.
The two-day festival is set to be held on April 6 and 7 at Dorothea Dix Park. Tickets are available here.
Dreamville Festival has proven to be a boon to Raleigh and surrounding areas since its launch in 2019.
Earlier this week, it was reported that last year’s event brought in a whopping $145 million to Wake County, which is equivalent to over 1,300 full-time jobs.
