6ix9ine‘s former spiritual advisor — a man known as the “Bling Bishop” — has been convicted on various counts of fraud and extortion.
Gothamist is reporting that Lamor Whitehead, 46, received the verdict after just a few hours of deliberation on Monday (March 11). He was convicted of wire fraud, attempted extortion, and lying to the FBI on a total of five charges.
Throughout his career, Whitehead boasted about his connections to celebrities and politicians — including the “GUMMO” rapper and New York City Mayor Eric Adams.
Whitehead will be sentenced on July 1, and could face up to 45 years in prison.
In 2018, 6ix9ine claimed that he’d devoted his life to Jesus at a Stop The Violence event in New York City, where he was invited as a special guest of Whitehead’s, according to The Christian Post.
“This young man that’s standing next to me, right here, I have his back. I’m his bishop; I’m with him,” Whitehead said during the service. “[H]e’s going to answer to me as a spiritual advisor. Let me help him change.”
Whitehead also confirmed to The Blast that the rapper (real name Daniel Hernandez) had a newfound relationship with Jesus Christ outside of a courtroom after a 6ix9ine sentencing hearing that same year.
It’s not clear when 6ix9ine disassociated himself from Whitehead.
What is clear, however, is that the two both have ongoing legal issues. While Whitehead promises to appeal his verdict, 6ix9ine continues to remain free on bond after his arrest for allegedly assaulting his girlfriend Yailín la Más Viral in the Dominican Republic.
According to the Daily Mail, the polarizing rapper was released from custody on January 25 after making a bond that, in dollars, comes out to around $507. The judge overseeing the case reportedly found that the evidence brought forward by prosecutors was not enough to keep him, because Yailín is not cooperating.
The claims of violence were brought by her mother, Wanda Diaz, but Yailín denies anything took place. Diaz did not attend the proceedings to share her side, however, because she was allegedly ill from a cosmetic surgery complication.
As it stands, 6ix9ine is currently barred from leaving the country without permission from a judge and must make a court appearance every two months.
As previously reported, the “GUMMO” rapper (real name Daniel Hernandez) was taken into custody on January 17 for allegedly inflicting “physical and psychological violence” on Yailín.
This is just the latest bit of legal drama that 6ix9ine has had to face regarding his tumultuous relationship with Yailín la Más Viral. Last month, she was charged with felony assault following the release of footage of the couple in a physical altercation.
According to arrest records obtained by HipHopDX, the Dominican artist (real name Jeorjina Guillermo Diaz) was arrested in Palm Beach County, FL, in the early hours of December 15.
She was charged with felony battery, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, obstruction of justice, and criminal damage to property worth $1,000 or more. A surety bond of $9,000 was posted for her by record producer Santiago “Alofoke” Matias, courtesy of 561 Bail Bonds.
