Benny the Butcher has announced that he’s no longer here for rumors about Griselda’s demise, and wanted to set the record straight once and for all.
The Everybody Can’t Go rapper stopped by The Breakfast Club on Friday (January 12), where he was once again confronted by the rumors by DJ Envy. El Carnicero, however, didn’t take the bait.
“We got so successful that where the support was coming from, people backed up, because we was about to take over all this shit,” he explained, while noting that Griselda “cooled down” to regroup. “Conway, he’s always been the top spitter to me. He still is. You’d be hard-pressed to name five n-ggas who can get in the ring with him.”
He continued: “[Everybody Can’t Go] is my first major-label album. You know what I’m saying? People forget about that because of the run we had. I’ve never dropped a major album in my whole life. […] We’ve been running it for so long. And, you know, you’re sick of seeing that. […] When they don’t see us together, they be like, ‘Oh man, they must be beefing.’ Man, we’re family, you know what I’m saying?”
Check out the full interview below. The comments about Griselda start at the 18 minute mark.
The theme of Griselda being family is something that Benny the Butcher has always reiterated (crew members Westside Gunn and Conway are half-brothers, and Benny is their cousin). Benny continued on that theme on Ebro Darden’s show on Apple Music 1 back in 2022, shortly after Conway the Machine announced that he was no longer signed to Griselda.
“I’m gonna break something down for you… We’re going to always be crew,” Benny told Ebro. “I don’t think Conway is still signed to Griselda, but that’s ‘signed’ to Griselda. He’s going to always be Griselda.”
Benny also clarified that Conway isn’t actually the owner, and that his cousin Westside Gunn is.
“West is the sole owner of that,” Benny said of Griselda. “I think that’s one of the big misconceptions is that they own it together. But that’s West’s baby. Like Conway tell you if West own a building, he did the construction type of thing.”
Benny’s clarification comes after Ebro asked Conway to explain more on where he stood with the Griselda roster, and the God Don’t Make Mistakes rapper said the whole situation wasn’t worth all the attention.
“It ain’t nothing to even trip off, for real,” Conway said. “I don’t know what’s going on… everybody just doing so much man, just on the individual side that we don’t really kinda be having the time to really connect all the time and link.
“We don’t all live in the same city no more, we don’t really hang out and do shit no more, see each so all these conversations we don’t necessarily get to have all the time.”
