Big Sean will soon be a published author as he has now unveiled plans to release his first-ever book, Go Higher.
The Detroit rhymer made the announcement in a video shared to Instagram on Wednesday (April 3), confirming that the book will be available to purchase starting October 8. In the clip, he explained that he has focused on five practices for purpose, success and inner peace “through an interactive guidebook on maintaining daily mental wellness” in an effort to help people reach their full potential.
“Besides the music, another project that’s been years in the making and it’s finally time,” he explained. “I can’t even believe it for real. But anyone who know me since I signed my record deal knows if you look at my old YouTubes, I’ve always been about speaking from the heart, following your intuition and checking in with yourself mentally, because that’s how I was raised.”
He continued: “That’s the upbringing that was surrounding me with my family. It was a lot of elevated thinkers. They’d give me gems and these books that I eventually read. If it wasn’t for them methods that I applied to my life, I for sure wouldn’t be here today, period.
“I took all the lessons I learned, all the philosophies mixed with real-life experiences and condensed what works for me into these five strategies that really will teach you what success mean to you and show you what your purpose is if you don’t already know.

Soon after his 36th birthday last month, Big Sean delivered an intimate Tiny Desk performance at NPR’s office in Washington, DC, during which he sandwiched an unreleased track that samples Jodeci‘s “Get On Up” between some of his biggest hits.
His version is titled “Get Up,” and he introduced the song with some sweet words about his one-year-old son, who he parents with Jhené Aiko.
“I wanna dedicate this one to my son, Noah Hasani. Daddy loves you so much, boy,” he said. “And everybody just working through what they working through, making the best of what they got, you know?”
The soulful, upbeat song features the former G.O.O.D. Music MC reflecting on fatherhood and looking ahead to his son’s journey in life.
“The older that I get I’m feeling the resemblance/ I look into my son’s eyes and still see his innocence/ I see my inner-child in him and still the remanence/ Will he lose it to the world, is it imminent?/ Or is it something that me and his mama had instilled in him?” he raps on the joint.
Big Sean also recently sampled Three 6 Mafia‘s 2006 anthem “Poppin’ My Collar” on “Precision,” the first single from his upcoming sixth album.
