Eve is all set to unveil the story of her life in print later this year, tracking her journey from the projects in West Philadelphia to Grammy-winning stardom.
On Wednesday (February 7), Ruff Ryders‘ First Lady shared the news of her upcoming memoir, Who’s That Girl?
“I’m excited for people to get to know me on a deeper level,” she said about the project in a statement to People. “This story is decades in the making.”
In an Instagram post promoting the book, she wrote: “Y’all, I am excited to announce my autobiography ‘Who’s That Girl?’ is coming out on September 17th. It’s been a journey down memory lane and I can’t wait for you all to read it.”
The 45-year-old worked on her book with assistance from renowned Hip Hop writer Kathy Iandoli, who also co-authored Lil Kim’s upcoming memoir. To that point, it is worth noting that Eve previously claimed that Queen Bee used to be inhospitable toward her back in the day.
“Before I’d met anybody, I always thought of [female rappers in the industry] as this sisterhood,” she told The Guardian during a 2019 interview. “I thought we were all gonna be friends. It was not like that.
“I’d see [Lil] Kim and say hi, and she’d be like: ‘Get the fuck away from me.’ Not verbally – you could just tell what she was thinking. But I was in a bubble and it never felt like a competition. I loved Missy [Elliott] and Kim but I never wanted to be them.”
The London-based artist and talk show host was, however, grateful that Ruff Ryders allowed her to be herself instead of forcing her to sell sex, which she said was something most labels at the time expected women to do.
“There definitely weren’t a lot of females out there, and the labels were basically trying to make you get naked,” she said. “But with Ruff Ryders, it was, ‘We like who you are, we’re not going to try and change you.’”
