Kid Cudi has extra reason to celebrate turning 40 after being blessed with a special gift inspired by his hero Kurt Cobain.
On Thursday (February 1), the rapper/actor took to Instagram where he unveiled a painting of the Nirvana frontman’s pre-fame recording studio that he received from his “good friend and mentor” Brett Morgan, who directed the documentary Kurt Cobain: Montage of Heck.
“Started opening my bday gifts and let me tell u, I feel so seen. Everyone got me something thats ME. This is one here that blew my mind,” Cudi explained.

The Cleveland native has made no secret of his love for Kurt Cobain in the past. In 2020, Mr. Solo Dolo got a new tattoo dedicated to the rock icon courtesy of renowned Los Angeles tattooist Doctor Woo.
The ink, based on Cobain’s appearance at the 1992 MTV Video Music Awards, showed him wearing a shirt featuring the cover of recording artist Daniel Johnston’s debut album.
Cudi later paid tribute to Kurt Cobain by wearing a floral dress designed by Virgil Abloh during a performance on Saturday Night Live.
“Virgil designed the dress for me. I told him I wanted to show love to Kurt [with] a floral print sundress and this man made a masterpiece,” Cudi explained on social media at the time. “Thank You @virgilabloh ur a fuckin genius!! Love you man we did it!!!”
The dress was reminiscent of the one Cobain wore when he appeared on the cover of The Face magazine in 1993.
