Lil Yachty and Dr. Umar had a discussion about the use of the n-word on the latest episode of the rapper’s podcast during which they shared very opposing views.

Dr. Umar was the guest on A Safe Place in an episode published Wednesday (February 28). As the pair got into the topic of the popularity of the word in the Black community, Umar explained it’s because of Post Traumatic Slavery Disease.

“Show me another group of people who will fight for the right to continue to use a word that the government itself codified as a psychological word of mass destruction against your people,” Dr. Umar began. “It’s because of your Post Traumatic Slavery Disease.”

Yachty, however, had a different thought.

He countered: “I was thinking it was a thing of almost just the swag and confidence that African Americans have that look like some, ‘Fuck y’all, we gon’ take the shit y’all use to break us down with and let you know that it don’t have no power over us.”

Dr. Umar disagreed – for multiple reasons. Listen to the full conversation around the 53-minute mark below.

While his podcast grows in popularity, Lil Yachty recently revealed he’s been quietly working on a joint project with James Blake.

The Atlanta rapper took to Instagram earlier this month to announce their collaborative album titled Bad Cameo.

In an interview clip, Yachty said the project is a “left” turn for both himself and the British singer/producer, while touching on the shock factor of them teaming up.

“I mean, granted, I think James has worked with a quite substantial amount of Hip Hop artists. But this project is so left for both of us,” he said.

“And then, aside from the one picture that James posted, which — he doesn’t have many followers actually — I don’t think people know that we know each other exist. So it’s just gon’ be like, ‘What the fuck?! When they do this?’”

Yachty added in the caption: “this is real.. soon.”

The picture Lil Yachty was referring to is a studio photo that James Blake posted in March 2023, showing Yachty next to a mic and Blake sat on a computer.

Blake also previewed an unreleased track between them in July last year at one of his CMYK events.
