Nicki Minaj has offered an update on her long-awaited documentary, promising fans that it is right around the corner now that her latest album has been released.

During an appearance on Watch What Happens Live that aired on Thursday (December 14), the New York City rapper confirmed that the film is indeed still on her itinerary, and will most likely drop before she hits the road in early March.

“The documentary is absolutely still coming,” she said about the project, which was originally announced in 2020. “I’ll of course add some new stuff going on in it to reflect the aftermath of Pink Friday 2 and stuff like that, but it’s done.”

She added: “I’m sharing stuff that probably nobody would expect me to share in the documentary. And yeah, it’s going to be a great experience for my fans.”

When host Andy Cohen asked why the documentary has taken her so long to release, the 41-year-old MC explained that she wanted to balance it with the release of her album.

“What happened was, because my album was not done when I was going to originally put it out, I didn’t want the documentary to come out without the music,” she answered. “That would’ve made no sense to people. Because of that, that network, they had to go with something else and I couldn’t force a documentary out either.”

She continued: “I wouldn’t have wanted it to come out right now because then it would take time from them really being able to really listen to music. And so now that they’ve digested the music, when the documentary comes, it’ll be a different level of emotional roller coaster, I think.”

In 2022, the “Barbie World” hitmaker shared a trailer for the documentary on social media that featured archival footage dating back to when she was just getting her start in rap. Per the post, the project will be split in six parts and presented as a series, though it is unclear if this is still the format Minaj’s team will be following.

“Coming out SOONER THANK YOU THINK,” she wrote. “I took some time to perfect this very intimate, delicate, electrifying, inspiring body of work. As I decide on a home for this project, I can’t help but reflect on what I’m including in this doc.

“Some things are so personal, it’s scary. It’s like NOTHING you’ve seen before & I need it to be handled with care. Love you so much. Thank you for the continued support.”
