The Alchemist was left out of a publication’s recent list of the 25 greatest Rap producers of all time – but he’s not sweating it.

On Wednesday (December 27), Billboard released a their staff’s picks for the GOAT Rap producers. It featured the likes of 9th Wonder, the late J. Dilla, Metro Boomin and more, with The Neptunes, RZA, DJ Premier, Kanye West and Dr. Dre rounding out the top five.

The following day, Alchemist — who is a three-time Grammy nominated and 2023 HipHopDX producer of the year — took to Twitter/X to share his thoughts.

“but my mommy said i’m the best!!! lol,” he wrote with prayer emojis as he retweeted Billboard‘s list. In a follow-up post, he added: “Just keep going crazy. Ignore the scoreboard. By the time they do the math you’ll be so up that it won’t even matter.”

While Billboard may not place The Alchemist high on their list, Kid Cudi recently put a bid in to make an entire album with the legendary producer.

Last month, Cudi broached the topic in his reply to a post on X/Twitter from a fan who was giving props to his Alchemist-produced track on Man on the Moon 2, “The End.”

The Cleveland native really took the message to heart, replying: “Wheres @Alchemist when u need him man!!! Lets do a album FUCK.”

The producer saw and responded to the message just hours later, writing: “long overdue! They dont know we go back! im getting your # from [Jason] Goldwatch asap.”

The Alchemist’s note about his history with Kid Cudi is more right-on than many fans of both artists might realize. The two collaborated on The Alchemist’s 2008 song “Therapy,” which also featured Blu, Evidence and — on some, though not all versions of the song — Talib Kweli.

Jason Goldwatch is a director who has links with both artists. He has worked with Cudi for over a decade, including on the recent video for “ILL WHAT I BLEED.”

Goldwatch likewise has a long-running creative partnership with The Alchemist. They even made a short film together, 2021’s Cycles.

The Alchemist has made a string of collaborative projects with artists like Freddie Gibbs, Prodigy, Action Bronson, Curren$y, Larry June and Boldy James, among others – and most recently, he released the original version of his previously-scrapped project with Westside Gunn and Conway The Machine, Hall & Nash 2.

Physical copies of the project are available at The Alchemist’s website, while the effort is also available on streaming services. The producer said that an “official” Hall & Nash 2 was also in the works, with the trio of Alc, Gunn, and Conway, as well as longtime Griselda producer Daringer.
