Your Old Droog Favors André 3000’s Approach Over Kendrick Lamar’s Leave a comment

Your Old Droog is more of a fan of the André 3000 approach to aging in music that includes a pivot to flute playing – as opposed to the apparent Kendrick Lamar approach involving rap beef.

Taking to Twitter/X on Thursday (March 28), the Brooklyn-based MC didn’t name any names as he dubbed rap beef a young man’s game, but it was pretty clear who he was referring to.

“Rap beef is for 20 year olds and teens … don’t want to hear no 30 and 40 year olds making threats, pick up a flute.”

As widely reported, K. Dot took multiple shots at Drake and J. Cole on his guest verse on “Like That” from Metro Boomin and Future’s joint album, We Don’t Trust You.

The former TDE rapper takes a number of shots throughout his verse, kicking things off with a mention of Drizzy and Cole’s No. 1 single “First Person Shooter” with accusations of “sneak dissin’.”

Yeah, get up with me/ Fuck sneak dissin’, first person shooter/ I hope they came with three switches,” he raps.

Kendrick then directly references “the big three,” which is commonly known as himself, Drake and J. Cole, claiming it’s only him at the top of the rap chain.

He also compares himself to Prince and the others to Michael Jackson, suggesting his work will outlive both of them.

Think I won’t drop the location? I still got PTSD/ Muthafuck the big three, n-gga, it’s just big me/ N-gga, bum, what? I’m really like that/ And your best work is a light pack/ N-gga, Prince outlived Mike Jack’,” he spits.

Kendrick Lamar closes things out by referencing Drake’s 2023 album For All the Dogs and Stephen King’s 1983 novel Pet Sematary.

N-gga, bum, ‘fore all your dogs gettin’ buried/ That’s a K with all these nines, he gon’ see Pet Sematary,” he raps.

Drake has yet to respond on wax, but he did appear to address the diss with a defiant speech at a recent tour stop.

During his second of two shows in Sunrise, Florida on his Big As the What? Tour on Sunday (March 24), Drizzy delivered a message to the audience, saying: “A lot of people ask me how I’m feeling… I’ma let you know I’m feeling. Listen, the same way I’m feeling is the same way I want you to walk out this building tonight.”

“I got my fucking head up high, my back straight, I’m 10 fucking toes down in Florida and anywhere else I go,” he added, his voice growing louder and more aggressive. “And I know that no matter what, there’s not a n-gga on this Earth that could ever fuck with me in my life!”
